![]() ![]() The original Matrix trilogy draw very heavily from Grant Morrison’s semi biographical Comic book “The Invisibles” which was trivialized and commercialized by the Matrix films. I was tickled by the fact that there was a part about the matrix trivializing Neo’s life story that I can’t help but think is a self criticism. Morpheus is found and a new crew of rebels plans to bust Neo out of his digital prison again. The new Morpheus is a combination of Anderson’s vague memories of the real Morpheus with elements of Agent Smith. ![]() Anderson unwittingly codes a version of his mentor Morpheus into the matrix in order to allow someone from the outside world to find him. I don’t know why Smith is back, if I recall correctly wasn’t the peace treaty with the machines a consequence of Neo annihilating agent smith? His inclusion and actions throughout the film make little to no sense. Agent Smith and Trinity are in Anderson’s life but just out of reach enough where they don’t realize who they are. I hated how meta and 4th wall breaking this part of the film was and it’s not exactly what I wanted to see from a Matrix sequel. The Matrix trilogy has long been over but now the studio demands a sequel and it will be made with or without Anderson. The whole concept of the Matrix is turned on it’s head when we realize that Thomas Anderson (Neo’s slave name) is a famous video game developer and that the Matrix is his Magnum Opus. The first third of the film we catch up to Trinity and Neo who are now apparently back in the Matrix. The first third of this film and the last two thirds feel like they are completely different movies. Other than Jada Smith as Niobi and the Merovingian, Neo and Trinity are the only returning cast members of the original films. Keanu is back as Neo along side Carrie Anne Moss as Trinity, but that’s about it. Unfortunately in this case, I can tell you exactly how I felt about the fourth Matrix film. ![]() Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. ![]()
